Friday Links and Fine HTTP Wares for September 4, 2009

I’m out of town this week without much of a consistent Internet connection, Dog-Friendlyand I haven’t had any time to scour the web for the usual bits of greatness that I  usually do.  So, in sneaking bits here and there between obligations, here are some things you should click on.  Really.  Do it for my dog.*

  • iSuck: Apple’s Five Worst Products, Ever.  I agree with most of them, especially iTunes, because after owning my iPhone 3GS for over a month, I still can’t get my music collection (on my home Mac) synced to it without iTunes threatening to erase my entire phone because I synced contacts with my work machine.  So incredibly frustrating.
  • Here’s a tech support cheat sheet that everyone’s family should print out so they can understand the magic voodoo you do when you come over to fix their broken printer.
  • RIM acquires Torch Mobile.  Slightly old news (how did I miss it?) but it looks like just about every mobile phone will be using a WebKit browser.  Also, in other words, kudos to RIM for the tacit acknowledgement that its native browser is pining for the fjords.
  • Am I the only one trying to learn how to be a better photographer through wading through Flickr EXIF data?  Didn’t think so.
  • TED Talk: Dan Pink on the surprising science of motivation.  This starts with a fact that social scientists know but most managers don’t: traditional rewards aren’t always as effective as we think.  This is a must-watch.
  • Here’s the Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 7 preview. Looks awesome.
  • In case you’re reading this and looking to give a random blogger a new car, here’s what I want.  OK?  Thanks.
  • Mac OSX Snow Leopard is out and running amok.  Since I’m out of town, I haven’t had a chance to install it and commence geekery.  How is it?  Let me know in the comments so I can get some vicarious nerding going on until I get back.

* I don’t have a dog.

Have a good weekend, everyone.
