Linkology: The Best of the Internet for 10/1/10

Linkology: The Best of the Internet for 10/1/10

Aside from the tidy 10/1/10 date, there’s not much to preface this week’s links headlines.  But we do have our big Workday Rising user conference coming up in just over a week, and we’re jazzed about it.  We’re a Workday consulting partner (with nearly 50 deployments) as well as a customer, and we’ve been around the block with Workday a few times.  In fact, we’ve been working with Workday’s most senior executives for upwards of 15 years.

But we’ve written about this before (see here and here).  So below are some little-known facts about MIPRO and our role at Workday Rising.  For instance:

  • We’ll be giving away these incredibly cool fishnet wine tote things if you come by and act nice to us.
  • We are also sponsoring a massage station right near our table.  When you get tired of vendors pitching you, be sure to drop by for a massage so that afterwards we can pitch you.
  • If you come by to see us, ask Jeff Micallef if he misses his old V8 Lincoln.  (He does.)
  • We might do a raffle for something pretty cool.  Or we might not.  This blog post does not guarantee the possibility of a raffle prize.  Sorry for being so mean.
  • We were going to give away these squishy head stress balls, but decided against it when we realized we’d fill the expo hall with people mauling tiny grimacing faces.
  • We have fun with Workday events, because they’re a great company and their technology is fantastic, full-stop.
  • Sorry for making such a long list.  This last bullet really isn’t necessary.

So, all that said, let’s get to the links, which is probably why you’re here.

Mapping stereotypes. So clever.

Incredibly depressing Mega Millions lottery simulator.  This is a perfect way to illustrate what insanely bad odds confront a lottery player.  For example:  I played the same five numbers twice a week for 10 years (1040 times).  Every 10 years I wound up blowing $1040 and getting approximately $80 bucks back in winnings.  I played nine times – nine decades – which is a nice, long lifespan.  Never came close to winning.  Neither will you.

Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake give an ‘80s rap lesson.  This might be the best thing you see all day.  Also, Fallon can sing.  Who knew?

This bookmarklet makes any webpage into Asteroids game.  You get to shoot whatever images, text, and videos are on the page. (Arrows to move, spacebar to fire, the score is in the lower right corner.)  Drag the bookmarklet to your shortcut bar, click, and fire away!  (Hint: it’s really fun blowing this blog up.  Just saying.)

The following link shows rally superstar Ken Block practicing for a sport called gymkhana.  He’s driving a 2006 Subaru WRX STI modified by Crawford Performance that puts down 530 WHP.  Car nerdery aside, this is, simply put, some of the most impressive driving I’ve ever seen.  Unreal.

Have a great weekend, everyone.
