Google has posted its 2008 zeigeist collection, which is a compilation of the most popular searches, by category, that flowed through Google search boxes throughout 2008. As always, there are some interesting finds for 2008, and certainly it’s easy to see how these were so top-of-mind:
- Fastest rising global search: Sarah Palin
- Top three searches relative to the economy: “financial crisis,” “depression,” and “bailout”
- #1 fond farewell: Heath Ledger
- Top “who is” search: who is Obama?
- Top “what is” search: What is love? (Editor’s note: don’t even try to tell me your brain didn’t finish this sentence with baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, no more…)
- Top three sources for political news: FOX, CNN, ABC
- Top social network search: Facebook
- Top cocktail: martini
- Top comfort food: ice cream
- Top Olympic sport: gymnastics
- Top movie trailer: The Dark Knight
This stuff is always massively interesting to me; it makes you realize that no matter where you live, you are more similar to others around the world than you ever thought. And that’s comforting.
Enjoy.
