This month PeopleSoft 9.2 will have been available for three years. Having worked closely with many organizations who made the move to 9.2, there are two common observations that have surfaced.
First is that Selective Adoption and the use of the PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) tool is still a mystery and struggle for many firms. Application fixes and the regular availability of new functionality has truly been a paradigm shift and a large number of organizations have not yet figured out how to best tackle this new application lifecycle model. Oracle has provided a number of resources to educate their customer base and partners like MIPRO have developed workshops and services to assist PeopleSoft customers as well. If you are a PeopleSoft 9.2 user, understanding and implementing a long term Selective Adoption strategy should be a priority for 2016.
The second interesting observation is that organizations have a desire to get more value out of the feature-rich 9.2 applications. Organizations heard about the benefits of PeopleSoft 9.2 and made the decision to invest the time, effort and budget to upgrade to 9.2. A common approach, however, was to take the most cost effective path, often leading to either a purely technical upgrade or a “functionality light” upgrade. We often see companies use PeopleSoft 9.2 exactly how they did with their prior 8.9, 9.0 or 9.1 applications. Now organizations are stepping back and starting to focus on finally extracting and utilizing the many new features offered with 9.2, unlocking and tapping into the true value of Oracle’s $5 billion R&D annual spend.
Getting the most from your investment in PeopleSoft is a common theme for 2016. There is a lot to take advantage of, since most of the road-mapped 9.3 features and functionally have already made their way into the current PeopleSoft 9.2 PI (PeopleSoft Update Image). And we haven’t even touched on all the new amazing features of PeopleTools 8.55. Our observations from the field – 2016 is going to be a banner year for organizations using PeopleSoft.
