Welcome to part three of our three-part series exploring the transition to Oracle’s Redwood Experience, presented from the house of MIPRO’s Center of Excellence on Oracle Technologies. This series is designed to help Oracle Cloud customers understand Redwood, what changes during migration, and how to prepare for the shift successfully. Whether you are part of an implementation team, a system administrator, or a business user impacted by the change, these posts provide clarity and actionable insights.
This final installment highlights key back-end considerations to ensure a successful transition: validation rules, security roles, and your final preparation checklist.
Auto-Complete Rules: Retesting is Essential
What Are Auto-Complete Rules? Auto-complete rules are validation or defaulting rules created in HCM Experience Design Studio. They ensure users enter correct information before saving or submitting forms.
What Changes in Redwood?
- Rules remain supported
- Must be retested for compatibility
- VBS Design Mode improves usability for editing
Example: Position Title Validation
- Problem: Users entering special characters caused downstream issues
- Solution: A validation rule using regular expressions blocked invalid entries
- Result: Improved database integrity and user feedback
Severity:
- Low to Moderate – Most rules can be migrated or rewritten easily, but validation is necessary
Custom Roles & Security Profiles: Redesigned Interfaces
What Are They? These define what users can see and do in Oracle Cloud Applications. Security Profiles control access to employee data, transactions, and configuration tools.
- Custom Roles: Define user capabilities
- Security Profiles: Define data access scope
What’s New in Redwood?
Redwood offers redesigned Data Roles and Security Profiles pages built in Visual Builder Studio. To use them, admins must enable two profile options:
- Configuration interfaces rebuilt in VBS
- Admins must enable:
- ORA_HCM_VBCS_PWA_ENABLED – turns on the Redwood PWA interface
- ORA_PER_HCM_DATA_ROLE_REDWOOD_ENABLED – enables Redwood experience for data roles
Benefits:
- Centralized role management
- Streamlined compliance auditing
- Easier role modification
Impact:
- Moderate — all custom roles and profiles should be audited
Redwood Readiness Checklist
Use this checklist to prepare for deployment:
- Personalization & Layouts
- Validation & Logic Rules
- Security & Access Control
- Testing & Launch Prep
Wrapping Up Your Redwood Journey
Redwood offers powerful advantages, but only with thoughtful planning and execution. Successfully transitioning to Redwood means more than enabling a new UI — it requires strategic adjustments across technical and operational layers. Each step demands planning and precision, from rebuilding personalization and retesting auto-complete rules to reconfiguring roles and validating access controls.

The good news is that you don’t have to do it alone.
At MIPRO Consulting, we specialize in helping Oracle customers modernize their environments with confidence. Our end-to-end support includes:
