How PeopleTools 8.63 Creates a Standards-based Bridge Between PeopleSoft and Modern AI Platforms
What’s Available Now in 8.63, What It Takes, and Why It Matters

The Question Every Client Will Ask
“Do we have to migrate off PeopleSoft to take advantage of AI?” No – PeopleTools 8.63 makes the answer clearer than ever: organizations can continue running PeopleSoft while adding new AI-enabled experiences and integrations around it.
The more important question is where the PeopleSoft environment runs and which AI platform the organization wants to use. PeopleTools 8.63 is now generally available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), with Oracle indicating that on-premises availability will follow. The release introduces delivered AI-enabling components that can connect PeopleSoft securely to agentic AI platforms and large language models without requiring a move to Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications.
This post looks at what changed with the production release of PeopleTools 8.63, how the new AI-enabling architecture works, and what PeopleSoft customers should be considering now.
What PeopleTools 8.63 Actually Changes
When this topic was still on Oracle’s roadmap, the conversation centered on what might be possible. With PeopleTools 8.63 now released on OCI, several of the key building blocks are delivered product capabilities.
PeopleTools 8.63 introduces two important AI-enabling components: a Natural Language Search Service, delivered with an embeddable chat interface that converts plain-language questions into secured PeopleSoft OpenSearch queries; and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server that exposes PeopleSoft APIs, services, and search capabilities as standards-based tools that AI agents can consume.
That distinction matters. Oracle is not simply embedding one proprietary AI assistant inside PeopleSoft. Instead, PeopleTools provides an integration framework that can work with AI platforms and LLM endpoints that support the required standards. Oracle’s documentation for Natural Language Search, for example, supports an OpenAI-compatible chat-completions endpoint, giving customers flexibility in how they architect the AI layer.
OCI remains an especially natural platform for customers that want to keep the infrastructure, integration services, AI services, and PeopleSoft environment within Oracle’s cloud ecosystem. But PeopleTools 8.63 makes the PeopleSoft side of the AI connection more standardized and reusable than it was before.
The result is a more flexible architecture: PeopleSoft remains the system of record, PeopleTools controls how secured business data and services are exposed, and the selected AI platform provides the reasoning and conversational capabilities.
The Missing Piece Is Now Delivered: PeopleSoft’s MCP Server
The biggest change from the earlier roadmap is that the PeopleTools 8.63 MCP Server is no longer a future concept. Oracle released PeopleTools 8.63 on OCI on July 29, 2026, and MCP support is part of the delivered release. MCP provides a standards-based way for AI agents and AI-powered applications to interact with PeopleSoft through delivered and customer-defined APIs, services, and search capabilities.
Security remains central to the design. The AI-enabling components work through PeopleSoft services and secured search results rather than creating an unrestricted path around the application. This allows organizations to design agentic experiences while continuing to apply PeopleSoft security and authorization controls. Equally important, the architecture is designed to connect PeopleSoft to the agentic AI platform and LLM approach that best fits the organization rather than forcing a single AI platform.
PeopleTools 8.63 also extends AI into the developer experience. Application Designer AI Assist adds an LLM-enabled assistant directly in Application Designer to help explain code, suggest improvements, troubleshoot issues, generate code, and create documentation-style summaries. Beyond AI, the release adds Semantic Search, Typo Tolerance, SAML 2.0 support, TOTP-based two-factor authentication, Customization Groups, webhooks, PeopleSoft Log Analyzer, PeopleTools container images, and the Middleware DPK Builder.
Two Starting Points, Depending on Where a Client Stands
For planning purposes, the infrastructure conversation still matters because PeopleTools 8.63 is currently generally available on OCI. Oracle has stated that on-premises availability will follow.
Clients already running PeopleSoft on OCI are in the strongest near-term position to evaluate PeopleTools 8.63. Oracle directs OCI customers to PeopleSoft Cloud Manager Image 22 to download PeopleTools 8.63 into their OCI repository and begin the upgrade process. These organizations can focus their pilot planning upgrades, security model, AI platform, use case, and integration architecture rather than first undertaking an infrastructure migration.
Clients that remain on-premises have two practical choices: wait for Oracle’s announced on-premises availability of PeopleTools 8.63 or evaluate whether moving their existing PeopleSoft environment to OCI supports a broader infrastructure and modernization strategy. Moving PeopleSoft to OCI is not the same as migrating to Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications; customers can continue operating PeopleSoft while using OCI and Cloud Manager for infrastructure and lifecycle management.
What Becomes Possible with PeopleTools 8.63
The most important shift is that AI enablement can now be approached as a set of reusable PeopleTools capabilities rather than as a collection of one-off custom integrations. The practical opportunities fall into several categories.
For employees and managers, the Natural Language Search Service and Chat UI can support conversational access to secured PeopleSoft search results. Instead of knowing the exact navigation path or search terminology, users can ask questions in natural language and receive results based on meaning and context. Semantic Search and Typo Tolerance further improve discovery inside PeopleSoft.
For Finance and shared-services teams, the MCP Server creates a foundation for AI agents to use approved PeopleSoft APIs and services as tools. That can support scenarios such as researching transaction status, assembling information for exception handling, or orchestrating approved steps across PeopleSoft and external services. The exact actions available to an agent depend on the APIs, services, security, and business controls the organization chooses to expose.
For Supply Chain, Procurement, and HR, the same pattern can be applied to high-volume inquiries and operational workflows: an AI experience interprets the request, PeopleTools provides controlled access to relevant PeopleSoft capabilities, and the agent can retrieve information or invoke approved services. This is where MCP becomes especially important because it provides a common protocol for making PeopleSoft capabilities understandable to AI agents.
For IT, PeopleTools 8.63 is also a modernization release in its own right. Application Designer AI Assist can improve developer productivity, Customization Groups can make technical debt easier to organize and govern, and the new security, logging, webhook, container, and middleware-management capabilities can reduce operational friction. AI is a major theme of 8.63, but it is not the only reason to evaluate the upgrade.
Where to Go From Here
The first step is to establish your current PeopleTools release and hosting model: Are you already on OCI? Are you using PeopleSoft Cloud Manager? Are they on PeopleTools 8.62 or an earlier release? Those answers determine the most realistic path to 8.63 and how quickly an AI pilot can begin.
From there, choose one high-value, well-governed use case and design it around the delivered 8.63 capabilities. Start with a process where the required PeopleSoft data and services are well understood, define exactly what the AI is allowed to see and do, select the AI platform and LLM endpoint, and prove the security and business value before expanding. PeopleTools 8.63 turns the conversation from “What might Oracle deliver?” to a much more practical question: “Which PeopleSoft process should we AI-enable first?”
