We have written quite a bit about the new PeopleSoft release model, but we have conversations about it weekly. We still find that many customers have high-level questions about the new model and how update images are released and deployed (in contrast with how they used to be released). That’s the crux here: organizations are used to doing something via Method A, and Oracle has unveiled Method B, which is better by a longshot. But that doesn’t mean Method B doesn’t need explanation and preparation.
If you’ve missed our previous posts, here is a page to which we refer our clients to often: the PeopleSoft Release Model Summary. It does a great job of explaining the new PeopleSoft release model, and it has some important links for further education and explanation.
Oracle’s new delivery model for PeopleSoft allows PeopleSoft 9.2 customers to get innovative new capabilities without upgrading. It consists of a regular cadence of delivering product capabilities in the form of PeopleSoft Update Images. PeopleSoft Update Images don’t just contain maintenance, fixes, and legal and regulatory updates; they can contain new capabilities as well. PeopleSoft Update Images are being released approximately every 10 weeks and, most importantly, are cumulative. This means customers can leverage them regardless of what changes have or have not been previously applied.
