If you’re planning to move to PeopleTools 8.54 (and you should, for the Fluid User Interface alone), there is a caveat we find ourselves telling our customers often: adhere to environment standards. Here, we’re talking mainly browsers and browser components, because browsers progress rapidly and support for newer technologies is spotty when you go back even a few versions (nonstandard HTML and CSS, for instance). These issues are very real – they ruin usability. We’re talking laggy performance, dysfunctional breadcrumbs, botched and/or broken graphs and graphical elements. Bad stuff.
Mark Hoernemann post over at The PeopleSoft Technology Blog explains things in-depth, and we suggest everyone going down the PeopleTools 8.54 check it out. But details aside, here’s the key call to action:
As you make plans to roll out the best release of PeopleTools yet, we STRONGLY recommend that you use only certified environment components. We test and certify environments for a reason – so that we can find as many issues as possible, before you do. Should you find a bug we missed, our Support organization stands ready to assist you in obtaining a resolution in your certified environment. We want your roll out to be as smooth as possible – take advantage of our testing and give your users the best experience available.
Again, check out Hoernemann’s entire post for all the details. Important stuff.
