Warnings are in order.
I have a head cold right now and my sinuses are filled with what I believe is construction glue, and I can focus on things for about 7 seconds before I cough or sniffle or reach for more Sudafed. Plus, I am traveling abroad currently, and this was written in the final, hectic hours before I left, which means I am seriously distracted. These factors, taken into sum consideration, will make this post seem like I have ADD and aphasia at the same time. I apologize in advance.
(Regular readers of this blog may not notice a difference at all. I’m strangely OK with that.)
Some of you may know I have a Bengal cat. I’ve written about him before. The good news is that so far, he has put off his decision to eat my face in the middle of the night because I didn’t feed him fast enough one day a few months ago. The bad news is that he has assumed the role of Real Family Human, and has started taking a seat every night at the dinner table, where he sits in an empty chair and glares at us until we feed him.
You’re asking, ‘Really, Jeff? Glares?’ Yes, really. Here’s an actual picture of the jerk:
Most self-respecting pet owners would put a stop to this right quick. But oh no, not us. We sit around and look at him and go, ‘Aww man, how cute,’ and generally fawn over him like stupid humans are apt to do with a domesticated mini-jungle cat. I give him little chunks of food. My son gets up and puts his own little bits of food in front of him, laughing all the while. In short, not only do we encourage the cat to sit at the table with us, we interrupt anything else we’re doing to supplicate to him and generally tell him he owns us, not the other way around.
This happens almost every night. If we don’t feed him, he just sits there and stares at us. The stare says, ‘If you want to keep writing stupid blog posts about me, some food is in order. Because it’s hard to write when you’re dead. Just sayin’.’
Maybe it’s the Sudafed, I don’t know. But writing this post is giving me the dim realization that I may have a bigger problem on my hands than I think. The the ADD part kicks in and I’m fascinated by my stapler, and it’s all good.
Where are the links today? There are none, and I’ll tell you why. If you were paying attention earlier, you know I wrote this before hopping on a plane overseas. It’s awfully hard to post links today that will be relevant 10 days later. So bear with me this week, and forward this story about my stupid cat to your coworkers. Maybe they can recommend a solution.
Have a good weekend, everyone.
