Whitepaper: Adapting to PeopleSoft Continuous Delivery

Whitepaper: Adapting to PeopleSoft Continuous Delivery

continuous delivery model

Oracle has released a very well-written white paper on the continuous delivery model associated with PeopleSoft 9.2.  The paper does a good job of describing how the new continuous delivery model requires organizations to change. How so? Change in the manner they view upgrades, change in the manner they analyze updates and new features, change in the manner they staff their organizations. Essentially, change from the way things were done previously.

With the continuous delivery model, there are opportunities for IT and business to take advantage of new technologies and features/functionality more frequently. Therefore, more continuous analysis and planning must occur to analyze content of images as they are released. Not only do organizations have to prepare for the technology change, but there are other organizational changes that fundamentally need to be structured differently to support the continuous delivery model.

Technology progress is only progress if you are ready to use it. Otherwise, it’s just a tool that sits in your toolbox, unused, or, worse, used improperly.

The summary in the whitepaper states it most succinctly:

New opportunities are available for businesses that have never had an incremental change model available to them. Satisfying the user community with new and better processes for incremental change and applying maintenance requires organizations to look at the processes they have in place and to make fundamental changes.  It is the proactive business that embraces change that will benefit the most and see the rewards.
