WIXOM (AP) — Ford Motor Co. Chairman Bill Ford Jr. and Gov. Jennifer Granholm will share details of a plan to redevelop a closed auto plant near Detroit and convert it into the nation’s largest renewable energy park.
Ford and Granholm will be at the site Thursday with officials from Xtreme Power of Kyle, Texas, and Clairvoyant Energy of Santa Barbara, Calif. They have said they will buy and renovate the 320-acre Wixom Assembly Plant if the affordability loans no credit check are approved.
The Michigan House approved tax breaks last week. The state Senate could OK tax incentives for the project Thursday.
The plant was closed in 2007. The park could employ at least 2,800 workers building storage batteries, solar panels and possibly wind turbines.
Excellent news for the home team here. I’d like nothing more than to see MI be a frontrunner in the green energy market, which makes this tweet from Gov. Jennifer Granholm encouraging.
We’ve had a lot of closed doors lately here in Michigan. It’s great to see such a promising one open.
